Locals having a picnic at museumplein in Amsterdam

The down side of visiting big popular cities is that they are very often full of tourist traps. And it can easily happened that you are paying too much for the services, waiting for hours in a queues in front of the museums and ending up with completely wrong impression of the city. That’s why I made a list of six ideas that will help you to enjoy in Amsterdam like a local. #1 – Admire the canals on a private small boat One of the best ways to explore Amsterdam is by taking the canal cruise. Travel quotes that will inspire you to travel more

Inspiring pound in Luxembourg Gardens in Paris

Travelling is inspirational in so many ways. You don’t just get to know the new culture, city or the country, but the most importantly yourself. Many books were written, and so many movies were filmed about it. Obviously, it also inspired people to write some of the lovely things about it. Here are some of my favorite travel quotes: You can never cross the ocean unles you have the courage to lose sight of the shore. CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before. DALAI LAMA There comes a point in your life when you need to…

Traveling by train with a child

Traveling in train with child

Traveling by train is one of the best ways to explore the Europe.  It is also one of my favorite ways of traveling.  Luckily, in a few of my recent trips, I found out it is also completely child friendly. But, like with everything related to kids, a good preparation is the key! Food Although international trains mostly have their own restaurant, I really wouldn’t recommend eating in them (they have a nice coffee, though). So, take enough food with you (delays can always happen) for both you and a child. Just think of his or her daily menu and…

Copenhagen’s Parks

Ørstedsparken public park

Copenhagen was declared to be one of the most liveable cities in the world many times. And after I recently visit it, I completely understood why. It has the perfect size, you can go everywhere on foot or bike, it is not overcrowded (I’m looking to you Amsterdam!) and it is so relaxed, while at the same time one of the Europe’s gastronomic, design and cultural centers. But, one of the things that impressed me the most, were its amazing parks. It has so many of them! We were very lucky having a great sunny weather with almost summer temperatures,…

Vivian Chiona: The lessons I learned in Bali

Lady meditating in nature

For me, traveling is always inspiring. It teaches you how to be open to differences. You also learn so much about other cultures and, of course, about yourself. Here is a guest post from Vivian Chiona, psychologist and founder of Expat Nest, where she helps expats with the challenges and struggles of a mobile life. In 2014, Vivian took a solo trip to Bali and felt totally inspired. Here she writes about the two most moving insights she had there: “In the summer of 2014, I went on a solo voyage to Bali. The trip was challenging, but it was…

A lazy day in Bruges

Bruges Grote Markt and chariots

I was dreaming about visiting Bruges ever since I first watched ‘In Bruges’, a great dark comedy starring Collin Farrel, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. And it finally happened, last weekend I went on a day trip to this cute and charming Belgian town. I was very busy lately with starting my own business, doing a lot of museum guiding and working late most of the days, so I needed  one day for myself. That’s why I took it really slow and was mostly enjoying beautiful medieval architecture and, of course, Belgian cuisine (and beers). So here is how I…

How I decided to take # 12 nature trips challenge

Bird in the canal at Amsterdam Bos

We are living in a busy world. It’s not something new. Most of us are working 40+ hours per week, mostly sitting by the computer and are dealing with stressful situations on a daily basis. It’s how it is. That’s why most of us also have our own ‘escapes’  from the reality in a calmer world of our own. For me that’s traveling. By packing your suitcase all of your problems are staying at home and you are going to recharge your batteries on your weekend brake. But, what I was thinking about lately, was, is it traveling to a…

Sinterklaas celebration in Amsterdam

Sinterklaas on a white horse in Amsterdam

One of the biggest parades in the Netherlands is arrival of the Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas). It took place in the middle of November (first weekend after the 11th of November) and is among the favorite events for Dutch kids. It also marks the beginning of winter holidays, so the streets gets its holiday lights and Christmas spirit. Dutch tradition say that on this day Sinterklaas arrives by steamboat from the Spain to the Netherlands. The biggest event is organized in Amsterdam where he arrives on the boat sailing down the Amstel River all the way to Maritime Museum. At that…
