I present to you today Croatian artist and illustrator Maja Tomljanović, whose work I recently discovered and got so impressed with.
I’m always on the lookout for some interesting artists and illustrators. And especially the ones whose work is inspired by travel and different destinations. Well, Maja’s work ticked all those boxes. So I was thrilled when she agreed to have a conversation with me and give an interview for Culture Tourist readers.
What are the most exciting places to visit in Russia? For most tourists, the choice is limited to Saint Petersburg, Moscow and royal residences nearby. After living in Paris for two years, Vincent van Gogh moved to the very south of France, in his search for the light and the brighter colours. He has spent a year there and that’s where he has found his own unique style. It’s also where some of his most famous paintings were created. There are many locations related to life and work of Van Gogh in Arles, that could still be seen today. I’ve spent two days there and have looked for some of them.
After the Netherlands and Belgium, my search for places linked to life and work of Van Gogh brought me to Paris next. Vincent lived there on several occasions. But, the most important one was between 1886 and 1888 when he decided to pursue his career as a painter and learn at the art centre of his time. There are many places related to him there, so here is my guide with some of the must-see locations linked to Vincent van Gogh in Paris.
Truth to be told, after eight months with no international travel, I feel some serious wanderlust. And I am aware there are bigger problems in the world right now, but I can’t help myself. After painting during the last five years in the Netherlands, Van Gogh moved to Antwerp in 1886. It wasn’t his first time in Belgium. He spent some time in Brussels a few years before. And have also lived for two years preaching among the coal miners in Borinage region between 1878 and 1880.
