For the third year in a row, we’re going to have an art-inspired blogmas on Culture Tourist this December again.
December is my favourite month of the year! I love everything about Christmas. From spending a lot of time with my friends and family, watching Christmas movies, decorating my house to trying out some new cookie recipes.
Art Blogmas 2022
In the art world, December is also a time of some lovely exhibitions, art markets and many beautiful festive events in museums.
European museums will host many great art exhibitions this winter. But you shouldn’t worry if you won’t be able to visit then. I curated some of the most beautiful winter-themed artworks for you to enjoy each day until Christmas online.
How the Art Blogmas is going to work
I did a little research and looked for the most beautiful paintings with winter and festive themes depicted on them. And am going to share them with you during the next 25 days.
Each morning, you’ll find a new post with a painting I curated for you and a short story about it. It will be a lovely tale to read with your morning coffee.
So, shall we start with day 1 of our Art Blogmas 2022?
Gustave Caillebotte: View of Rooftops (Effect of Snow)
We’re starting with the work of the French Impressionist painter Gustave Caillebotte, showing (I guess you won’t be surprised with this one) – Paris in winter.
Caillebotte wasn’t only a painter but also one of the first artists who started experimenting with photography as an art form. This could explain the unusual perspective of this painting.

With numerous shades of grey, he painted the roofs of the Montmartre neighbourhood in Paris. And managed to capture the month of December in the French capital perfectly. You can almost feel the cold through the painting, right?
Today, the painting is displayed at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. You can see it there, together with some of his famous paintings.
