Macarons in the store window

For those who never heard about them (if there are some) macarons are cookies made of icing sugar, ground almonds and egg whites. Although they become popular in a last few years, they’ve been baked all back in Middle Ages.

If you’re a music lover or history buff, you shoul If you’re a music lover or history buff, you should visit St. Thomas Church (Thomaskirche) in Leipzig 🇩🇪

For 27 years, Johann Sebastian Bach worked here as the Thomaskantor (Director of Music), shaping Western classical music as we know it. Today, you can explore its Gothic architecture, spot the beautiful window dedicated to him, and pay your respects at his final resting place right in front of the altar.
🎼🎶 But, don’t just look around! The church is still incredible active, organising regular live music performances in the very space Bach composed it for (especially during the annual Bach Fest held each year in June).

✨Photo dump, day 1

I’m spending the next couple of days in one of my favourite German cities, Leipzig. Not only it’s a very cool place filled with many great cafes, art galleries and cute shops, but 300 years ago, one of the most famous composers of all time, Johann Sebastian Bach, lived there.
So for the next few days, I’ll be looking for places linked to him in Leipzig, attending concerts and trying to follow in his footsteps 🤍

Walking in the footsteps of a Renaissance genius 🎨 Walking in the footsteps of a Renaissance genius 🎨

If you want to experience the magic of Albrecht Dürer’s artworks, you have to go back to where it all began: Nuremberg, Germany 🇩🇪

👨‍🎨 Start your visit at the Albrecht Dürer’s House. It’s the only surviving 15th-century artist’s home in Northern Europe! Walking through his actual living quarters and studio feels like stepping back in time. While his original paintings are scattered across the globe, this museum holds an incredible, extensive collection of his masterly prints and a dedicated room of painted copies that let you see his artistic ideas up close.

But the search for Dürer’s artworks in Nuremberg doesn’t stop there!

🖼️ Head over to the Germanisches Nationalmuseum to see his stunning original paintings. Some of the most famous are larger-than-life panels of Emperor Charlemagne and Emperor Sigismund. But my favourite were portraits of his mother, Barbara Dürer, and his elderly teacher, Michael Wolgemut.

👇 Which Dürer masterpiece is your favourite? Let me know in the comments!

Last week, I’ve spent a few days in that picturesque town exploring locations linked to one of the most famous German painters, Albrecht Dürer.

And I’ve put together the ultimate guide to follow in his footsteps: from his well-preserved timber house, to his statue and some of his famous paintings.

Travel Back to the German Renaissance: The Ultimat Travel Back to the German Renaissance: The Ultimate Albrecht Dürer Guide to Nuremberg 🇩🇪👇

🎨 Albrecht Dürer spent almost his entire life in Nuremberg. He was born here, created some of his most famous paintings and prints within its walls, published his groundbreaking books, mingled with the city’s scientific and humanist leaders, and walked its winding streets.

🎨 Stepping into this historic German town makes you feel as if you have travelled back to the late Middle Ages.

🎨 While strolling its cobbled streets, passing alongside its recognisable half-timbered houses, and exploring its iconic landmarks, it is easy to feel as though Nuremberg hasn’t changed much since the famous painter lived here.

🎨 To help you trace his steps and bring history to life, here is your short guide to finding the legacy of Albrecht Dürer in Nuremberg 🏛️👨‍🎨🎨

🌍 It houses the Behaim Globe, the oldest surviving globe on Earth. It was created in 1492, just before Christopher Columbus returned to Europe with news of the Americas, meaning the American continent is entirely missing
👨‍🎨 It was home to one of the most important Renaissance painter, Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528), but I’ll tell you more about that in the next post…
