Recently, I decided to start a series of more personal blog posts.

I am taking so many photos from museums I am visiting or shorter day trips, and somehow I am never finding enough time to make a blog posts out of them.

That’s why I am starting to write monthly overviews where I will be letting you know what I was doing in a previous month, where I was and what are my plans for the near future.

A romantic weekend in Croatia

If you are following this blog for some time, you know that I am mostly traveling with Marijan, my husband and Karlo, our (all-over-the-place) little son. Well, before I became a mum, I used to spent weekends with Marijan alone, by just swimming in a pool, having a nice dinner and doing nothing. So, when I learn I will be providing a speech in the Croatian Museums Conference, my mum (thanks god for having grandmas) offered to babysit Karlo for a weekend, so Marijan and I immediately booked a room for two in a nice spa hotel near Trakošćan Castle. I will write a longer blog post about our weekend in the northern Croatia’s part called Hrvatsko zagorje. However, you can get some ideas from the photos below. It was all I needed, relaxing and beautiful.

I spent some nice family time in Zagreb, as well, with my brother and sisters and realized once again how much I miss them. Well, it is a price of living abroad.

Autumn came to Amsterdam

After I came back to Amsterdam, it looked like Autumn came all of a sudden. But, what an Autumn… It is definitely one of the most beautiful ones I experienced during my three years in Amsterdam. It is so colorful, with many sunny days and a lot of cultural events happening around the city. I am just enjoying every single day of it.

Art walks

This month was also quite busy for me because I was organizing two art city walks in Amsterdam. They were created for a group of expats living in Amsterdam. I was really working hard while preparing them, but at the end I was very happy with the result. And what is even more important, I received great feedback and will be organizing them again in January.

A day trips to Utrecht and Den Haag

With the beautiful weather we had this October, it would be a shame not to take advantage of it and go somewhere for a day trip. I visited recently renovated Nijntje Museum in Utrecht (Nijntje is Miffy for the ones grew up outside the Netherlands) and was amazed with it. I can see we will be spending a lot of time there during the rainy days in the winter.

Although, I am in Den Haag quite often, the trip I took few days ago was quite special!  I have visited two museums where I haven’t been before. The first one was the Mauritshuis which has a great collection of Dutch Golden Age paintings. I especially liked early Rembrandt’s self-portrait, the ‘Anatomy lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp’, and the star of the collection, Vermeer’s ‘Girl with a pearl earing’.

The other museum was a gem itself, a Children’s books Museum (Kinderboekenmuseum). Each room has illustrations made by other Dutch illustrator and a lot of space for kids to play and practice reading. This small museum is a must if you are visiting Den Haag with kids.

More art & Amsterdam Noord

This month I went again to Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem and by knowing so much about Dutch Golden Age painting now, saw his paintings in a completely new light. I just love his brush strokes! He is definitely starting to be my favorite Dutch painter.

Last weekend I also went to Affordable Art Fair, where you can purchase contemporary art in a price range from 50 to 5,000 euros. The venue was in Amsterdam Noord and I am a bit ashamed to confess that I was there for the first time. However, I was more amazed by the street art I saw in Noord, then in actual art fair, so I definitely decided to explore this cool Amsterdam neighborhood more in the future.

What am I up to

I am currently very busy with preparations for my London trip next week. It will be my first WTM so I am polishing my media kit and setting up some last minute meetings. I am also planning to do two city walks there, so keep an eye on blog, there will be some interesting posts published in an upcoming weeks (here is a little insight – there will be a lot of Banksy in it).

So, goodbye till the next month from one of the best views to Amsterdam. Is it a better way to finish your day with a cocktail in Double Tree by Hilton, anyway?
