With many festive events, Christmas trees all around and that cosy feeling, December is my favourite month of a year. And a big reason for it is Christmas markets. Since I love visiting them, I did a bit of research and looked for the Christmas markets organised in the Netherlands. I’ve first compiled this list four years ago, and have updated it each year since. So if you would like to visit some of them, here is your complete guide through the Dutch Christmas markets.

Christmas Markets in the Netherlands – 2019 Agenda

Many events are going to be organised during December in the Netherlands. From the vintage Christmas market that will transfer you back to the beginning of the 20th century. To some located in the castles or even in the underground caves. There is an ice skating rink in almost every city, with many Christmas concerts, Santa’s visits and shopping opportunities for a lovely and unique Christmas presents.

Museum Market organised at Museumplein in Amsterdam is probably one of my favourite Christmas markets in the Netherlands. Designers and artists from the Netherlands are showcasing and selling their work there. Last year I had a lot of fun selling my colouring postcards there.

However, sadly, Museum Christmas Market won’t be organised this year. But, keep an eye on their website for a date of the next museum market.

The seventh edition of ALF is taking place between November 28th and January 19th 2020. You can see more than 200 art installations made by international artists on the route. I am going to the Light Festival every single year and am strongly recommending it!

The best way to see it is on one of the special canal cruise boats that are following the Light Festival route. You can start it at the Central Station or at the Leidseplein (check the links for tickets). Both of these have a special promotion – if you’re going to purchase your tickets before November 28th 2019 you are going to get a 20% discount!

You can also visit the Amsterdam Light Festival on one of the historic boats. Or, if you’re not afraid of the cold, but would like to have a great view of the installations, you can join one of these open-top boat light festival tours.
